Social Responsibility
One of key elements of Bayer's corporate policy

• Under the Bayer Young Environmental Envoy program and in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), selected students from 19 countries around the world go to Bayer's headquarters in Leverkusen, Germany on a week long study tour to experience how environmental protection is practiced by people, government and industry. The program is aimed to educate the youth in the global effort to protect and save the environment.

• Support the International Children's Painting Competition on the Environment in partnership with UNEP for children to express their fears and hopes about the environment on World Environment Day celebration.

• Co-sponsor with Goethe-Institute on Science Film Festival to acknowledge the importance of science and technology for future development.

• Support the Risk Management for Handling of Hazardous Materials for Small-Medium Enterprises (SME) organized by the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand, in cooperation with the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ).

• Support the National Innovation Agency (NIA) under the Ministry of Science and Technology by sponsorship for the National Innovation Awards since 2004. The awards aim to strengthen the national innovative culture and raise awareness in innovation among industry and the public sectors.

• Be a member of Thailand Business Council for Sustainable Development (TBCSD) which is spearheading the initiatives in promoting corporate social responsibility in the country and in the development of the national sustainable development strategy in cooperation with the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB).

• Donation of goods and funds for Cyclone Nargis victims in Myanmar through different key national relief organizations: the Thai Red Cross Society, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Royal Thai Armed Forces.

• Launch Save THE WORLD with Bayer cloth bag campaign with the distribution of over 1,000 cloth bags to employees at all sites to help sharpen their awareness on climate protection which is in line with the global Bayer Climate Program.

• Form a partnership with the Vocational Education Commission in providing educational support for students and personnel at Rayong Technical College. During the three academic years (2008-2010), ten scholarships will be awarded to students as well as various workshops. In addition, multimedia equipment and learning tools will be facilitated to enhance their skill development.

• Form a partnership with the National Cancer Institute Foundation in sponsoring the Liver Cancer Prevention project with an aim to build public awareness on the prevention of liver cancer amongst Thai people for three consecutive years (2009-2011). The project started with a pilot campaign entitled Kin Sook Saeb Lai-Than Pai Ma-Reng Tub including Train the Trainers sessions for village volunteers, media activities through various media channels, and field activities like the tie-in concerts of famous northeastern band Siang-Esarn tohelp promote the campaign to the local target.

• Winning the Prime Minister Industry Award 2009-Safety Management category for Bayer Thai's polycarbonate production site. The company was among 112 entrepreneurs who applied for the award organized by The Ministry of Industry and was one of the five selected companies for the category.

• Winning the Good Governance for Environmental Management Award for the production site in Bangpoo. Organized by the Bangpoo Industrial Estate, the award was aimed to strengthen relationship between industrial enterprises located in the Bangpoo Industrial Estate and nearby communities, and to appreciate the companies's commitment to the good governance for environmental management and social responsibility.
